    Need help/advice - email problem......

I'm having an email problem and need some help.

Someone who emails me often with photos - and sometimes forwards emails he gets is having a problem with his email account. However, that problem is effecting people he sends his emails to including me.

Yesterday and this morning he sent me 2 different emails. The emails multiplied and I've gotten about 50 of each email. I have a gmail account and usually when I don't want to receive something in my inbox, I select it and put it under "report spam" and it immediately goes into the spam file. Normally all the gmails that come in with that return address automatically go into the spam file after reporting it. NOT THIS ONE. The new ones keep coming into my inbox even after reporting them numerous times.

I HOPE this is not a virus.....how can I stop these from coming in? About every 30-60 seconds I get another one.

ETA: I think they stopped. I had emailed this person and asked him to delete the email at his end. About 10 minutes later the emails stopped so I don't know if it's because he deleted it. He had told me last night when I emailed him about the first problem that his (speedfactory) site has problems sometimes that causes these glitches.

Also I just figured out how to "block" emails - and put a block on his name just now.

In the meantime, I still need some input about what the source could be - could it be a virus - or just a glitch that I don't need to worry about. Should I keep the block on his email address? He is an 83 y/o man that loves to send his photos to people, but he also forwards these emails he finds interesting that others send him. I feel badly for him as he is lonely and photography is his only interest so I don't like to block his name.

    Thanks!

Re: Need help/advice - email problem......

I think this is the answer.....I googled the question, emailed Gallaudet University - and got this reply which sounds right.

Isn't it great that they offer these helpful services at the University.....

Actually I tried to forward it to a friend before a got multiple emails - but it wouldn't go through.......thankfully!!!!!!

    Hi,

It sounds like his computer may have gotten infected with a virus thus his repetitive messages till you told him to delete it. Now that it's stopped, you should be ok HOWEVER if you had forwarded on to another person and that person tells you about repetitive messages then you'll know your computer got infected as well. If so, students that are here for Summer school or summer programs can seek assistance from us. Hope that helps.

    Thanks!
    Sue

Yes, I debated whether I should keep this thread or ask to have it deleted when I got such a speedy answer after googling the question. However, since I got an intelligent response I thought it might help someone else.

BTW, the older gentleman that had the problem sent me an email saying everything is okay now. Any opinions on whether I should open more emails from him? I believe he is innocent of any wrongdoing and feel badly because he sends out emails of his photos because he is lonely. I have sent him a link to PR, but he doesn't seem interested - he did say he goes on Fred Miranda sometimes.

Liz, I don't know that much about these things, and I have no idea how computer savvy your friend is, but my anti virus pogram scans my outgoing emails as well as the incoming.

So I'm guessing he should be able to configure his so it will keep watch on all that he sends out and maybe nip these things in the bud...

You need to check your accounts on different sites and see which sites are causing concern. Perhaps your data was just merged into some strange database.

    Wow
I've never faced such a problem. Maybe you should check rules for sorting emails? Maybe some of them make your incoming emails multiply

If you communicate with your customers by mail as many do, then you need to improve your account a little bit and of course writing. It's not enough to just be polite and answer questions quickly. You should make an email signature to improve everything. Do this using html signature generator and then it will be easier for you to establish contact with your customers.
