I know there is a group of people that intentionally string these people along to waste their time as they do ours.

There was a story about this sort of thing on NPR a few months back. It was about a group of guys who string these people along. It was really interesting. They had some guy traveling to different countries and they ended up in dangerous situations. They were able to hack into their personal email and read what they were sending back and forth. At one point they told them that their mother had died. I will have to see if I can track down that story to share here.

There is a whole community of people who tie up scammers in dialogue,often reversing the con back on to the bad guys .
While their methods are sometimes a bit extreme,I salute their work,taking up the time of crims who would otherwise be conning kind folks out of money they can't afford to lose .
