Curious... any stamp collectors around here?

I was just curious if there were any other stamp collectors around here. I have done it on and off for about 35 years. My Uncle got me started and I let it lapse for about 10 years and just started back up after getting my Uncles collection following his death. Putting his collection he started in the early 30's and my own together has made quite a collection. The earliest stamps I have are US Scott #10 1851, 4 of them are on covers.

I had a stamp collection when I was in grade school (early 80's). I only stuck with it for about a year or two... I wonder what happened to the album I had them in...

I've been a philatelist most of my life. The key is making sure no one catches me doing it...

Seriously, I have what you would call a modest collection, and I am oh so very glad I took good care of the stamps I collected growing up and never ditched them!

I have no idea of the value of my stuff, but you would probably agree that's not the most important thing.

I started out collecting used and unused US stamps (singles, plate blocks, first day covers), and at some point moved on to topicals. My topical collections now are SPACE, SOCCER and CYCLING. Oh, and I also go for some of the USPS collectible stuff, especially any kind of cartoon stamps (like the Looney Tunes issues).

When I got back into collecting a few years ago, I was addicted for a while to ebay stamp auctions. Man, what a great and easy way to add to your collection. I bought this lot of hundreds of Russian space stamps from the 60s and 70s. Too cool...

Thanks for posting this. It makes me want to spend some time with my collection. And of course get some additions to it!

    MJS,
Ouch, you better check the attic!

    Steve,
Hmmm, why doesn't that surprise me that you collect space & loony tunes stamps?
Seriously though, thats cool, my topics are early US ie: pre 1900 and ships world wide. I play around a bit in the BOB (back of book) stuff as well. In fact yesterday I bought a BOB collection on Ebay and paid about 2 cents a stamp for a huge collection. there are lots of Revenues in it as well as airmails and Wines
