    China and safety of products

Again toys are being recalled due to lead in them, but what else is China sending us that is lead tainted? It's a known fact the Chinese Govt. doesn't care about it's own people, well except for those "chosen" by the govt. And with the number of toys discovered to have lead in them what else are they sending us thats got lead in it? Just about anything metal could have lead, and everything thats painted could have lead, and even some plastics have been found to have lead in it.... including VCR's, TV's DVD players having lead in their plastic cabinets.
Lead is cheap, and when used in metals it makes a good cheap filler to save on higher priced steels , but it makes that steel softer, easier to work with, cheaper on tooling costs.... and a cheaper product too.
So be careful, especially if you have kids, anything from China thats painted plastic or metal could have lead!

and it's not just limited to plastic products, I check labels of pet AND human foods for chinese origins, especially wheat, because I cant imagine the chemical that caused the death of pets recently is limited to pet food wheat.

    Scary stuff.

Also beware of US companies. Regulations require that companies report hazards with their products with 24 hours. Mattel has consistently ignored this law prefering to sit on their hands trying to hide problems. Two, non-chinese, toys were hazards that hurt children but they waited almost 6 months to report. Fines were levied but they continue to this day to ignore problems. The government is now investigating the stalling with these chinese goods.

There is only one reasonable way to handle China: refuse to buy chinese products. China's economic boon is due to exports. Impact that trade and they will scramble to comply with our simple regulations.
