how would you say Thank You?

Here's the situation, a friend (in a position of authority) called and said, someone who wished to remain anonymous wants to give me and my wife an expensive gift.

I've been struggling with a "Thank You".
If anonymous knows us that well I have been thinking a little humor to start would be OK.

"Was it something I said or did ..."
"If I don't shoot the messenger, do I hug and kiss...."
"Do you realize what a burden you've placed on us..... now we have to be extra nice to ALL our friends"

Well, I think you get the idea.

What are your thoughts?

I will appreciate any and all suggestions for special phrases (sincere or humorous ) that are appropriate.

I'll close with just a plain THANK YOU!

How about something like Thanks, and we hope to be able to return the favor, to you, or to someone else (the Karma theory).

That's pretty strange and raises my suspicious nature. I hope you don't have to give them your social security, bank account, and credit card numbers.

If it is legitimate, then just say that since the gift is anonymous that all you can say is thank you, whoever you are.

I find this to be a very odd situation even though a friend was telling you this. If they can't tell you who it is I would at least want to know why and if there is any strings attached. Reminds me of the old saying "Beware of Strangers Bearing Gifts". I think I would be more concerned about the why instead of the Thank You, Jeff
