    0 to 120mph in 4 seconds

Very few devices in the world can accelerate you that quickly. This is one of them.

Top Thrill Dragster in Cedar Point, Ohio. After being catapulted for 4 seconds, kinetic energy alone takes riders to the top of this 420 feet summit. They fne-tune the acceleration with braking plates so that riders "just" make it over the hump. It is known that the calculation is off occasionally and the cars don't make it over and it reverses course.

I went on it - very cool indeed. The entire ride is 17 seconds. Fortunately, the line was short and I had to wait only about 20 minutes.

The cars shown here are already going 120mph and I'm surprised that 1/1500s captured them. Standing this close, it's hard to turn one's head fast enough just to follow them.

Anyway, if you're in the area, have at it!

You have a mcuh stronger stomach than I do. Thirty years ago I might have had the guts.

Thanks av & mn! To say I wasn't a little nervous would be a lie. I also had to wolf down the remaining pint of frozen raspberry treat just to enter the line so the thought of what that might look like coming back up wasn't too appealing.

I mean look at that vertical drop. It is vertical and with a twist!

All I can really remember about the acceleration was that things started to go by in streaks - remember in Star Wars whenever they jump to lightspeed?

    Re: 0 to 120mph in 4 seconds

I read about this ride shortly after it was built and would love to take a seat in one of the cars

We drove right past the place this past tuesday on our way to washington dc on I-80. We had plans to stop at kings island on the way home but due to the 2 day delay of the nascar race a few things got deleted from our schedule We figured that with ohio being so close we can make that a weekend trip.

Thats OK, you can have the ride But you should try shooting the cars at Indy in the corners if you think 120 id hard there : you have 4 to 8 seconds to decide to shoot depending what turn your in and where you are in the turn.... and they are averaging 220mph a lap.

The cup cars appear to poke along at 175-180.....

That's NUTS! I can't even get on a ferris wheel without losing all my equilibrium.
