    Lens Help for a D90

I am going to be purchasing a Nikon D90 this week and have a couple of options for the lenses, could i get some recomendations on what to go with?

    Option 1:
Nikon D90 with 15-105 VR lens (this lens seems a bit nicer but i am unsure)

    Option 2:
    Nikon D90 with 15-55 lens and a 55-200 lens.

My question is would it be better to go with option 1 and later get a 55-200 or 75-300 lens or would it be better to go with option 2 and have the 2 lenses even though it does not seem like as nice of a lens. ( i may be wrong with it not being as nice of a lens though)

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

18-105 VR is supposed to be the new nice kit lens that Nikon is pushing. I would rather have one nice lens then two mediocre ones. When buying a lens determine what you are wanting to shoot. You might be able to get by with an even cheaper alternative. If I were you I would get the 18-105 VR since that will cover everything from wide to short-tele, and evaluate what you enjoy shooting most and save for a lens that will fit your needs the best. When I was shooting film I rarely ever put my 70-300 on my camera. It was soft and slow and just not fun to shoot with. The lens I used the majority of the time was my 50mm. It was fast and light, and unobtrusive.

In the end get what you feel you need to get the job done. But I do think you will be much happier with a nicer lens.

See if you can find it with the 18-200 vr.

I hardly recommend a VR lens is you are getting only one slower lens.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

While you are determining what to get you also need to research where you will purchase your equipment. Take a look down the forums page and do some reading in the "Camera Dealer Feedback Forum". Doing some reading here will be time well spent, Jeff

Re: Lens Help for a D90

Well I picked it up last night and went with the 18-105 lens kit. I think I got a pretty good deal, $1100 for the camera, lens, uv and starlight filter and 2-4gig cards. Anyway, i took a few pictures with it last night and it is awsome! the camera really felt nice and took some great photo's.

    Thanks for the help,

One more question, going forward with lenses, what are some suggestions on expanding from the 18-105? I know that is a pretty general question but figured this was the place to ask. Most of the pictures I take are landscape and some portraits.

    Thanks again for the Help!

Nikkor 50mm 1.8- You are going to want something for low light.
SB-400, 600, or 800.- I know its not a lens, but you are going to want a better flash.
Maybe a Macro of some sort.

Thanks for the suggestions, i will definatley check that lens out.

I also thought that I would wait on the flash but it is funny how having a new toy lets money burn a hole in your pocket. I will probably be picking up a flash this weekend...

I love my SB600, and its not too expensive and lets you do a lot of creative things as well.

But if you can afford it the sb800 is better and I think there's an sb900 now.

I have the 18-200 Sigma. The Nikkor version is more expensive but maybe better. It's the best walk around lens because of the range.

For a wide angle I like my Tokina 12-24 f/4 a lot but they now make an 11-18 f/2.8.
Everyone needs the 50mm whether at f/1.8 or f/1.4.

Look for the 50mm lens war thread in viewfinder.
Also a lot of the Windowlight shots in viewfinder are with the 50

I just ordered a D90 also. I ordered mine from BHphoto with the 18-200vr, I plan on picking up the tokina 11-16 in a couple weeks and I believe those two lenses will cover the majority of my shooting

Well I changed my mind, yesterday after reading some reviews I ordered the Sigma 10-20 instead of the tokina 11-16. I believe I will benefit more from the greater focal range also
