    Go for the Sony

I assume you mean the Sony A300x with the 18-70 and 55-200 lenses? If you can find it for the same price as the Nikon D60 with just the 18-55 lens then the Sony is a better deal:

    - two lenses instead of one
    - Sony kit lens is a 18-70 instead of a 18-55 (wider zoom range)
    - The D60 will only autofocus with AF-S lenses (excludes some interesting lenses like the 50mm f1.8)
    - Sony has 9 autofocus points rather than 3 on the D60

I don't know the Sony range very well but it looks like Sony are trying to break into Nikon's domination of the bottom end of the market by pitching a higher specification camera at a lower price. The only problem is that the Sony range of cameras, lenses and accessories is less vast than the Nikon one. If you were planning on turning professional one day this would be a handiicap

Well if you're posting this in the Nikon forum, that's the answers you'll get.

Great comments from Franglais and while I agree about a possible future handicap, I don't think I'd worry too much about that at this stage of the game. My experience with DSLR's is almost entirely Nikon and I have no interest in the others (it's been a good decision for me) but Sony has been out for awhile now and has it's fans too. If the prices were the same for equal specifications on the cameras, I'd go with the Nikon but again I'm biased.

One VERY IMPORTANT thing to do is read the "Camera Dealer Feedback Forum" first and make sure you are purchasing from a reputable dealer. Read at the address below, Jeff
