nikkor 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4d?

hi guys im in the market for a new standard lens as my 18-55mm dx kit lens isnt cutting it any more. i would go with the 35mm dx nikkor lens but i want something that will work with full frame as well just in case i ever want to buy a d700. so its down to the 50mm f/1.8 or the 50mm f/1.4d. i just want to know which lens is going to be better in the long run because i feel like id rather spend the extra money on something that will be used for a longer time that something that i just buy because its cheap.

At $100.00 You can't go wrong with the 1.8D. I have both LOL. I honestly can't see any difference in image quality.Slightly better build quality, smoother bokeh with the 1.4D.In my opinion.
For avail / low light work..1.4D.. it's fantastic. :thumbsup:
