    Need help choosing.

I'm going to be purchasing my first DSLR camera soon. I've narrowed it down to the Nikon D60 and the Nikon D80. What I need to know is what are the benefits of the D80 over the D60? I've tried looking it up online but I just don't know a lot about the cameras right now so I can't make sense of most of it. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the site. I moved this to the Nikon Forum where you might get better help specifically about Nikon. You may already be aware that the D90 will replace the D80, but that can mean you'll get a great deal on a D80 too.

    Advantages of the D80:

    - great viewfinder
    - autofocus with any lens (D60 autofocus is limited to AF-S lenses)
    - more focussing zones
    - built-in flash can pilot other flashes using Nikon's sophisticated iTTL system
    - more to hold onto when using big lenses
    - better user interface (many functions are directly available via a button or a wheel whereas on the D60 you have to go into a menu which takes time)

    Advantages of the D60:

    - dust removal system
    - small size

They have the same sensor but I think the D60 has a more recent image processor. The results are going to be close anyway.

If you can get a D80 body for the same price as the D60 then I would say go for the D80 but I like the D60 dust removal system. If you can get a D80 with the 18-70 (excellent lens) for the price of the D60+18-55 then I would definitely go for the D80. If you find the D60+16-85VR (excellent lens) - I would hestitate..

Not buying any more gear this year. I hope
