i need some help,right ive been ito photography for about 10 years and im just about to delve into the world of digital .the thing is i dont know which to buy.iv got about £450 SO IS IT
S2 PRO,D40,D50,D70S,D100, i just dont know which one has to be one of these because my lenses wil fit them.thanks fastball

I moved your post to the Nikon forum because I think that you'll get more useful answers here.

What is your level of photographic experience and what film camera do you have now? What do you plan to shoot with your new digital SLR? Looking at your prospective camera list, I'd start by crossing off the D100. It was a good camera a couple of years ago, but there's no reason to be looking at it now. I'm not a Nikon user so I'm not as intimate with the system as some of the other guys here. But I can help you differentiate these cameras a bit.

Fuji S2 Pro: Slower, great image quality, mostly used by wedding and portrait photographers - not the greatest action camera
Nikon D40: Absolute entry-level digital SLR. The cheapest and most basic digital SLR currently available
Nikon D50: Solid, 6-megapixel entry-level enthusiast digital SLR. Great features and image quality
Nikon D70s: Last generation prosumer digital SLR - does it all, continues to serve many photographers of all types well. A little behind current SLRs with 6-megapixel sensor instead of current 10-megapixel standard.

That should help sort out the choices a bit. Hopefully some of the Nikon guys here will weigh in with their thoughts and correct any errors I've made. If you can give us more information about your experience and plans for the camera, that would help a lot.

Agreed, I've had one for a few years. The S3 might even be in your budget as the S5 has been announced but it's not much of an improvement. Be aware that some S2's have had sensor problems - mine was replaced no-charge by Fuji last summer.

Newer is almost always better with digital cameras. I wouldn't go with an older camera unless there's a very good specific reason for doing that - like you need a fast camera for sports and current models are out of your price range.

I'd say get the D50 or D70S. The D40 might not be entirely compatible with your old lenses if they aren't AF-S or AF-I.
The others are somewhat out of date and may have significant disadvantages.

I assume your lenses are autofocus?

Thanks for replies so far.to answer a few questions that might help a bit more.I have been using (dont laugh) a f55 but this was a choice based soley on budget.Primarily I take landscape and wildlife shots.My experience is quite limited ,mainly wet weekends (the only time i have off),I take a lot on holiday, mostly sunsets, which im not bad at. Im hoping that having spent approx £450 on one, i might force more out of my self .When i get the time im not bad.
ps Would if be worth the extra ton and get a d80?

My immediate answer would be yes.

But...

What lenses do you have? If you want to get more serious about your photography, a less expensive body and a new lens might be a better investment.
