I just bought the D2X

Good day folks, I would like to share my enthusiasm with you all. This past Sunday I went to B&H hoping I could get a D200 since they showed it in stock. Well by the time I got there it was sold out.
Itching to buy something since I was at the superstore, the last words out of my mouth were
“ok, can I get the D2X then”
$4500 dollars later I was on my way home, the 30 minute drive back home felt like an eternity.

Speed, your too much man. Thanks, the d2x will complement my d2h nicely.
Now I have another problem, I have to explain to my wife why I need a faster computer and more external storage.

I would like to meet the person that said digital is cheaper. And send him the bill.

Curious to see what your impression is with D2H vs. D2X in terms of image quality and high ISO's. Most of the comparisons I've seen are more lab-type conditions, not real world.

Congradulations on the new purchase. The D2X is sure on my wish list, and will remain there for some time I'm affraid. I have the D70 and The D2H in the stable right now on the digital side. I'm egar to know how the D2X and The D2H compare on the noise end of things. I am not at all happy with the noise on the D2H at the higher ISO's, but can't justify the price for the D2X at this time.

I’ve used the D2h for a bit over a year and yes it does suffer from noise. But it’s still a great camera and working with those small files is a blessing.

As for non-lab and non-controlled tests thus far the image quality of the d2x is much better. Again I’m still playing around with all the custom settings and making the camera work for me.
With the 28-70 2.8 and custom setting of normal sharpening the images is tack sharp. I have to proceed with caution with PS USM. As for noise it’s still their but not as bad as the d2h.

Bottom line it’s a work horse, and that is what I needed, specifically the autofocus. I did a christening two weeks ago and the ambient light reading off my l-358 was iso 400 / 10 Seconds shutter @ f1.8. yes I did say 10 SECONDS, it was the darkest reception hall I have ever did a shoot.

I’ll be posting a couple of comparison shots over the next couple of weeks if anyone is interested.

That part was easy for me. The wife has been wanting me to get into digital to save on developing costs. Since our last computer went belly up (it was a laptop and the screen is on the fritz), we needed a new computer anyway. To prevent her from going to Wal Mart and picking up a $400 special, I explained to her that photo's and photo processing takes a lot of memory, speed, and RAM.

So I'm getting a HP Media Machine with part of our tax return. 3.2 gig processor, 1 gig RAM, and 250 gig hard drive. I can hardly wait. I'll have to play with the images from the Coolpix 5700 to break it in. Maybe that'll hold me over until Christmas when I get my D200 (the baby D2X).

You, me, and a whole lot of other people!!! I figure with a new computer, a D200, SB-800, and a couple of compact flash cards, it's going to cost me roughly $3500 to get into digital. Which is part of why I've put it off this long, and why it's going to take me a year or more to acquire all the aforementioned items.

Good luck convincing your wife. We're pulling for you buddy.

Intel II, 333MHZ processor. I don't even remember how much RAM it has or how big the hard drive is. No CD or DVD burner. I loaded PS Elements 2.0 on it, and it slowed it down so much I took it off.

My computer at work is a Pentium III, 733MHZ processor. I don't recall how much RAM it has, but it was upgraded a year or so ago. 80 Gig Hard Drive. CD burner. I do all of my photo stuff there, but being a work computer, I have limited time to play with it.

We need a new computer for home anyway. The girls each have one, but they are older models. They do fine for writing homework assignments. With a Media Machine, I'll have a computer designed for photo/video/audio work, and I'll be able to play with it a lot more than I can my work computer. Maybe I'll even learn to do a few things in PS...
