    D90 "Made in... " ?

After months that seemed like years of no photo equipment, I finally got my brand new D90 kit today. Very happy with my purchase so far. Brings back a lot of memories from back when I owned the Rebel XTi. Photography is a drug, that's for sure. I'm like a little baby.

The question I want to raise here is: where is your D90 made?

I'm from European Union and I was wondering if US customers receive a different built product. Having the possibility to get one from US as well, I'm wondering if I made the right choice.

Mine is made in Thailand. How about yours guys?

I don't remember where my D80 was made. The one thing I do know is that no matter where it is made, it is made for certain markets.
In the USA, many dealers sell "gray" market cameras at low prices. Gray market cameras are made for non USA markets and Nikon will not honor the warranty unless they are cameras made for USA market. You also might get a manual printed in Spanish, Italian, Romanian or something other than English.
I don't know but imagine the same is true of other countries. I guess they sell in different countries according to what the market will bear in that country.
I don't think there is actually any difference in the camera though I have heard that quality may be better or worse if made in one place compared to another.
I think you probably made the right choice as the USA model would probably not be warranted in Romania and you probably got the exact same camera.
More worldly members may have a better idea than I.
    Keep Shooting!

The main difference is the warranty: 12 months for a USA one and 24 months for the one I got. Any other thoughts are welcome.

I know that Nikon have a large plant in Thailand, and that most of the bodies are made there (example: D300). Recently some of the lenses have been coming from China (example: 35mm f1.8).

I never heard of a Nikon factory in Taiwan. Are you sure you don't mean Thailand?

I think that there is just one plant that turns out the the same camera for everyone. The packaging for each country is probably done in the country (manual). The thing gets shipped to your country distributor who sells it at a margin to cover costs, including work covered by the guarantee, trained technicians to do repairs, etc.

If you buy a grey market camera then you are buying a product that was sold by another country distributor (example: the US) then it's the US distributor who has taken the margin to cover the guarantee and the Roumanian one won't cover it. If you had a problem with it then you would have to send it back to the US. I wouldn't do it, personally..

Not buying any more gear this year. I hope

Thailand it is. My mistake, sorry. My previous, Rebel XTi, was bought by myself from Canoga, near L.A.

The D90 was bought from Romania yesterday.
