Nikon D50 sucks

That's it...I'm officially sick and tired of this piece of crap!!! If anyone has an equivalent Pentax, let me know and I'll trade you this piece. Thanks to my Pentax, I got some good shots, but the Nikon will be lucky to have captured 3 or 4. It would not focus, and on manual it would not fire unless it was very bright. I love picture quality of this camera, but if it won't fire when you need it to fire, what good is it?????? It may be operator learning curve, but, it shouldn't be this difficult to get it to function. You can't see icons, the menus are more complex than necessary. All in all...Pentax *ist DL is a much better camera by leaps and bounds.

I read somewhere that the D50 was / is a great camera for kids.. so easy to use
Could it be that it's just not working properly anymore, and in need of repair ?
Regardless, I'm sure you will have lots of interested folks lining up for the trade

I have a friend with a D50. She's not a great technician:

- She doesn't understand what "contrast" is. In bright sunshine she increases the ISO (don't ask me why)
- Lots of people have explained Photoshop to her. She still doesn't get it
- She has a printer but when it's important she usually wheedles me into doing the print

However with her D50 she turns in pretty good results. OK the exposure is sometimes off because RAW is beyond her but in a recent semi-pro shoot some of her pictures were chosen rather than mine.

She has never complained about focus problems or the camera not shooting when she wants. I have no idea where your problems are coming from.

hahaha...GP...well...i'm only halfhearted serious anyway. If someone did offer me a trade, I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat. It's a good camera, but I've never really learned how to use it properly. My Pentax is so much more comfortable to me. I think it's the learning curve that I'm not willing to spend time on. The picture quality on the Nikon "is" slightly better than the Pentax. All in all, both are equal cameras. I guess the reason most ppl stick with one brand is because it's comfortable to them.

Thanks Volks and Franglais...As I explained to GP above, I think 95% of it is I'm not willing to spend the time to learn the camera as well as I should. I get frustrated easily and then just grab my Pentax! :-) ... I guess it's possible it needs a good professional cleaning and adjustment, because the camera is several years old. But all in all, it is a great camera!!! FYI...I'm a dyslexic reader and have an extremely hard time learning from reading. So, I learn by trial and error, most of time and pick friends brains the rest of the time. Occasionally, I will pick up the manual to clarify something, but most manuals are poorly written.
BTW, I did get a few good shots...by accident...hehehe

Used to have a Pentax ist film camera.. it was a great camera, but then so was my Olympus OM2.
