Pheasant I think.
But without the long tail feathers.
I do have a partridge family shot somewhere.
Never took you for a David Cassidy fan :LOL

I was really shocked at how many people have never seen a pheasant before. They are quite abundant around here and I try to shoot a few every winter. They are quite tasty. But, I have yet to shoot one with a camera. That is a good capture. Like Bev mentioned, they are extremely wary, at least around here where there is a hunting season.

Hey, Minnesota Scroller - I've only seen one in my parts. The DNR releases most of what hunters snag around here (sounds not quite the sportsman thing IMO - might as well release white turkeys too). My cousin is an avid hunter and he and I have tried to coordinate schedules so that I can "shoot" before he "shoots" them.
Its definately a male pheasant Roger, probably during moult, but its a great capture as these guys are very wary and run a mile when people are about.
Bev,
I was sneaking up on him from behind a load of trees on Brownsea Island in Poole. He only stayed around for 2 shots before disappearing into the fforest.

I remember back in the early 80's hitting one of these and when I stopped its head was in my smashed headlight Yuck!

Mike Loupey - thanks for the comments. I only saw one on Brownsea and he soon disappeared and there is no hunting aloud on the island.

OUCH!! a few years back, and could possibly happen today, if the body was still intact that would of been in the boot, home, plucked, hung for a few days and then Sunday roast!!
A girl I met on the Scottish Smart Rally had three pheasants painted on the side of her car, with red X through each one.
She had hit them head on, with disastrous results.
Over 40mph they go straight through the plastic body panel and into the radiator, which is a "sacrificial" crash absorption component.
So each accident, a few weeks apart cost over £500 in body panels and radiators.
It would have been much more with air conditioning

And according to UK law the police could clap you in irons The car behind you can pick it up but not the car that hit it. The law was brough in to stop people using cars as poaching weapons.
I hate plucking feathers.

Ouch that's expensive - I always find that they seem to want to run into the car with suicide in mind; that includes pheasants and partridges.
