    Yellowstone Alpha Wolf

Hello, This is my first decent shot with a DSLR. Any critique and criticism would be great. Thanks in advance. Tyler

    Re: Yellowstone Alpha Wolf

Hi, Tyler, and welcome to the site.

A nice head-and-shoulders portrait of handsome male. I feel the shot is missing a story - perhaps because it is tighter than what I might have shot. But a wide shot of a captive animal is sometimes not an option.

If I were to be limited to this tight of a shot, I may have gone for something different - perhaps a slow shutter speed to give the shot a more fluid feel for example.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Sharp with great dof.
Wish the background were a different color but it is what it is.

I think Loupey's critique is right on. I felt like something was missing, too. It's a very nice photo. But it leaves me needing more context. Sometimes you just can't do it with one photo and a series works better.

Why don't you tell us some more about the photo? What gear did you use and what was the environment in which you took the picture?

I used a nikon D200 with a 70-200 2.8. She was running along the road so she was pretty close.

Beautiful creature!! I felt it was a little close in too, but I do like the background colors.
