    Yellow Bellied Sapcuker (my turn)

I posted a few of this guy in the ID thread thinking theat they were Downy WP's but PaulNJ corrected me as usual lol.

He seems to be a regular visiter to the tree in my backyard so I am hoping that this is simply the begining of my shots of him/her.

I ordered a set of tubes on monday so I hope they get here this week so I can test them out this weekend. Loupey seems to be wearing off on us all lol.

I think these are a much nicer looking bird than the downy or hairy woodpeckers. I love the red on top of their heads (not just the back), and in the throat area. Great catch Jaedon, I don't see them very often on the net and I think it's because it is hard to get close to them.

It was the third day in a row that he was sitting on that tree. I am hoping that there's a nest nearby. The flicker just moved in yesterday but because I was lying in wait for this guy he happened along at just the right time for me. As the weather slowly warms up around here the wildlife is definitely giving me some wonderful subjects.

You very well may have a nesting pair setting up in your area, If you keep seeing one for the next month or so, follow that sucker back to the nest

Re: Yellow Bellied Sapcuker (my turn)

Will they nest in a residential area? We do have a decent amount of green space around us and a few small valley area's that are simply to tough a terrain to build on that they have left forrested. I hope we do have a breeding pair around us cause it sure would be a nice series to find the nest in a few months time.

I FINALLY found a downy. About the size of a large sparrow, red only on the head, and white bars on the tail. Did I get it right this time? Actually it found me. This is the same tree in the backyard where I shot the Flicker and the Sapsucker.

    That is a downy

They seem to nest at higher elevations, but will indeed nest in residentail areas aslong as they have some seclusion. I found one nest miles from any home and one nest 20 feet from a deck.
