    Yaking for Birds

72 degrees in the Mile-High City. Yea!
I loaded up the kayak and headed to the local lake in hopes of sneaking up on some birds or ducks.
Heehee, who said ducks are color blind? They saw my bright red kayak coming a mile away…

I shot theses with the 18-135mm, sporting a new Hoya HD CPL's

    Re: Yaking for Birds

Bob, I don't want to start a great discussion, but in my experience, ducks and most birds are more sensitive to motion than colour. I suspect this is the fact because I can drive my car up beside a pond and the ducks will float away, but if I sit there for a while, they will come back (I'm not moving). Would be interesting to find out.

Second picture is great - really like it.

    Cheers,

    WesternGuy

Thanks WesternGuy, I'll have to give that a try.

Nice shots Bob. I've seriously considered buying a kayak for photography as I sold my canoe and my pontoon boat for flyfishing doesn't have a floor to keep my gear handy. How stable do you find your kayak?

That's an effective way to sneak up on water birds. They don't expect danger to come from the water as likely as from land.

I feel quite comfortable in this model. Plenty of room for gear.

If you can find a place that will rent different models that would be a good way to find one you feel comfortable with.

Hmmm...I think I should be looking forward to many close up shots from you?
