    Wolves on a kill

This past Wednesday i was heading out on an overnight trip for work. On the way to the canyon we were to hike we passed this kill site and there were 3 wolves on this kill ( that night i heard there were 6 wolves and a bear). The white wolf is the canyon pack alpha female, the black wolf standing is the canyon pack alpha male and i think the black one laying down is a yearling female (she never got up to see for sure though).

we could only stay about 20 mins and then had to get a move on to a very eventful trip (very cold camping, river fording, super long tiring hike through deadfall, getting charged by a grizzly sow- spraying said grizzly sow with pepper spray, trying to get out with out further incident, etc.) but it was a very good start to the trip and made me happy.

Great series Dylan. Love that 1st pano that shows the 3 wolves. Was that cropped that way or did you stitch it together?

Fantastic pictures. I've never seen wolves in the wild, but dining would keep them in one place, a photographic advantage.

The pack seems egalitarian compared to the pride of lions I took video of in Kenya. The males eat first according to lion etiquette. Females have to wait, even if they made the actual kill, in this case a Cape Buffalo. Rampant sex discrimination in the African Lion community.
