    Winter 2012 bird ID thread

    I realize these are poor photos, but what I am after is for someone who knows birds to give me a positive identifacation of its name. Thanks in advance. BB

    Nice catch, Billy! These are such beautiful, elegant birds. I've seen them while visiting the prairies in summer, but we had a lot of miles to cover and couldn't stop for a photo. They are so unique, with their upturned beak.

    the carolina look great, but though I think it's a house wren, that last one has me wanting to say winter wren.

    first Wren is a Marsh second is Carolina third is Winter

    I've heard it is rare for a Marsh Wren to spend the winter here. A shot from yesterday.

    some sort of woodpecker





    closest match is a downey , but this one has black back so it is not a 100% match , any better ids?

    I came to see if I could get an ID on this bird I saw yesterday and it looks like I already have an answer based on others' photos.
    American Avocet, right? Slightly different than the ones here but close enough I bet...
