Wide-macro
Hercules beetle in wide-macro with rainforest habitat, Selva Verde, Costa Rica. Nikon D300, 10.5mm + 1.5 TC, two SB600 strobes in remote. This is the style I prefer :D

Re: Wide-macro
What a strange looking critter! It looks like something left over from the dinosaurs. I love that you included the a view of the environment.

Re: Wide-macro
Another shot which requires being 1-2 inches away from the subject, in this case a beetle almost as large as a human hand ! I'm totally in love with this technique, which however requires a very scenic background to be totally successful...
Sorry for the low quality of the image - you can see in all its high-res glory on our free quarterly online magazine ANIMA MUNDI - Adventures in Wildlife Photography - each issue a 140-page pdf available for free downloading at www.animamundimag.com...check it out, it's free
