You're all correct to some degree (except, that is their mother and no the boardwalk isn't leaning - just veers about 30-degrees to the right)

They crossed the boardwalk because some crazed photographer leaped onto the middle of it to shoot image #1.


The mother promptly jumped ship and I barely had time to repositon myself to get these two. Last duckling #7 can be seen still on the boardwalk in both.
