    While I've Been Away...

No, I didn't share a cell with Paris Hilton - although that was the only "news" I happened to catch on CNN last week (I guess that's good and bad).

But I did happen to catch these. Didn't expect to shoot much (a lot of family time and just relaxing) - but after a while, I couldn't resist.

Sorry for the lack of responses - I tried to follow as much I could with my Pocket PC phone. Back now so I should be able to keep up

    and the last of them...

1st image - didn't know what was causing these weird tracks in the sand on one particular evening

2nd image - found the cause - winged ants amassing near the edge of the tide only to die in a gross wavy line.

last image - wife shot this with her point-and-shoot of two fishermen (one is my brother, one isn't).

I thought about just bring the basics (28mm, 50mm, 85mm) but ended up taking my "truck bag" with the 17-40mm for landscapes (which I took none), 50mm for dark interiors (which we didn't go in any), and the 300mm with 2x just because I use it for pretty much everything

The little crab was a 5-point shot (knees, elbows, and stomach). Thanks for looking!

    Thanks, payn.

I took my extended family to North Topsail Island in NC. This was our second time there as it is not very busy, not very developed, and not too far. My goal was to get night shots of nesting sea turtles as this island is a turtle sanctuary for Loggerheads, Kemp's Ridleys, and Green Sea Turtles.

We were curious why a beach house next to the one we were renting was being renovated during the midst of peak tourist season (shown here). We found out later that Richard Gere and Diane Lane were due to arrive today to start filming scenes of the upcoming movie, Nights of Rodanthe. I'm sure that that stretch of beach will not be too private during the shooting Watch for this house when the movie releases in 2008.

    Re: While I've Been Away...

This series of photo was well worth waiting for. I can' imagine a vacation that didn't include photography. My family knows and understands that this is the best form of relaxation for me. They have been very indulgent of my obsession over the years.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Re: While I've Been Away...

Scott-devon, Old Timer - thanks for looking!

Yeah, it was a relaxing vacation. This is the first one I can recall that we didn't have a schedule/itinerary whatsoever. Just hanging out

OT - I whole-heartedly agree that photography is a great form of relaxation. But it is stimulating at the same time. All ranks can enjoy and learn a lot from it. Can't say that about too many things in life.

    thanks again.

    Re: While I've Been Away...

Great shots as usual. Everything looks like as if taken in a studio!

My only vacation was 5 days in Vegas but I had poker on my mind more than photography. Nothing exciting photography-wise for me.

Glad your vacation included lots of relaxation.

Manacsa - thanks for looking! I did have some business to take care of in SC during the first full day of "vacation". It did pay for the entire vacation so I can't complain. But it was nice to get it over with right away.

    Thanks again, everyone!
