Where do they drink this time of year?

With their high metabolism, I always wondered how they can get enough water when it's arctic cold out.

It was probably less than 10°F this morning and windy and I couldn't stand to have my bare hands out for more than 5 minutes at a time. Followed this red-breasted nuthatch to a now frozen puddle. Looked to me like he was trying to pry under it.

Uncropped with the 300mm + 2x. He must have been pretty thirsty as I was able to get even closer than this while lying on my stomach.

They really don't need much water in winter compared to summer and will eat snow , get liquid from food and so on .
