What would you do to get "the shot"?

To what lengths would you go to to get "the shot"? Here is an interesting article about a guy who spent 3 months sitting in a watering hole to get the shot he wanted. His photos are stunning, but I'm not sure I would like having to try to find the worm in my foot each morning!

    Greta link Mike.

I prefer to shoot partly naked models on a studio than make a living with worms under my skin....donīt know why but Iīm pretty sure I prefer the models.

That may sound extreme until you learn what the Planet Earth / Discovery / BBC guys go through. Actually I am watching a humpback whale on Planet Earth right now.

Since he's a BBC chap this might not of been his most insane wait. I wonder what 270 hours in the water did to his skin...

If I had no worries and wasn't going broke at the time (making money with the shot would be a bonus!) I might think of do crazy things like this.

Too bad he didn't just wear a wetsuit. I would imagine even fishermen have gear for such positions. Great shots!! Glad he lived to tell about.

Wetsuits actually let the water in so I don't think it would have done him any good, but I was thinking the same thing. Some type of protective suit could have been used but I guess when he decided to sit a few feet from wild lions, maybe safety wasn't the first thing on his mind.

I sat staring at a hole in the ground for about 20 hours to get a shot of wild badgers a few years ago. I was able to sit in the comfort of my truck though, with a book to read and some lunch and the radio.

I would do something like what this guy did, but I would put my own safety a little higher on my priority list than getting the shot. There is a show on the Discovery Channel that I have seen where they put a couple of guys in a big clear box and then sit next to a dead animal and wait for the lions to show up. It's basically a cube made out of thick bullet proof plexiglass or something. Full visibility but very safe. Make something like that that is waterproof on the bottom, with air holes on the top and some shooting holes on the sides and you're good to go.

Another, more simple option, would be to set up the camera, or a series of camera, on tripods in the water, and trigger them remotely from safe distance.
