    What is it?

My wife went out on the deck this morning and there were 2 large birds in a tree right behind the house. She went inside and grabbed my camera and was in time to get a shot before they flew off. It is a little blurry as she doesn't use the camera much but any help...We are in Mass. and I am at a loss to tell her what kind of bird she shot.

    Re: What is it?

My bird book says that it looks like an adult turkey vulture. Their summer range puts them up into most of New England and parts of southern Quebec and southern Ontario. HTH.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the ID. After you gave me the lead I google imaged it. Now I am so jealous of my wife. We never see these birds around here. I am hoping they will be around and I can get some good shots of them.

I'd be a bit nervous if vultures were hanging around my house.

Yep, no question, that's a turkey vulture, we've got tons of 'em around here, also tons of the shorter scrawnier black vultures too...

They were back today. Circling and then I found them up in a tree. Heckle and Jeckle. I have never seen vultures around here and in March...

Frog, I don't know if I would be nervous, or not. At least they will keep the streets and yards clean of "dead things" LOL.
