Weekend shots and a couple questions...

Hey everyone...
This is really all I have to show from the weekend. Sunday it rained all day. The deer seemed to enjoy it though. Myself... not so much. I spent most of the day trying to get to know my camera's available settings. I have a Canon Xsi and this brings up a question. Since I have had the camera, it has been set on "Standard" for "Picture Style". For those of you with Canons, do you shoot in Standard or "Landscape" picture style? I did a few test shots of still objects and it almost looks like landscape is better. They are definitely "different". I am asking you guys because I want to know which would be better for BIF's or other wildlife photos.
Also interesting, I noticed that the high quality JPG's looked as good or even better than the RAW files of the same shot (I tested this by having the camera shoot both. I normally just shoot RAW files)

Thoughts? Suggestions on settings?

If I recall, the main difference in landscape is it pushes up the greens and blues a little

RAW files need you to do the processing, and have the extra bit depth to allow you to do it.
JPG files have the processing done in the camera, but only 8 bits.colour and less latitude for post-processing.

Buy a bigger memory card, shoot and save in JPEG+RAW to get the best of both worlds ?
Or plan to spend time processing every really good shot to look its best.

You will find that RAW doesn't look as sharp, because no processing is done.
I use RAW for everything, even snapshots, and do my own post-processing for everything.
I find Lightroom a great tool to do the first pass of processing fast.

Love the pictures don't know anything about Canon camera settings.

On my nikon I prefer normal (saturation, contrast, sharpness) then I do tweaks
in RAW right after downloading them from the camera.

What did you have the camera set to for the shots above? The WB, saturation, sharpness all look right on.

Bob... the top shot was in the standard setting (cropped and sat-bumped) and I believe the wet deer were all in the landscape setting (cropped a little and I think I sharpened those a bit).
Since I asked about this, I read somewhere that if you shoot in RAW, the picture style settings don't matter/apply which makes sense. These settings only applies to the JPG's.

That would make sense, since it's basically a color processing adjustment.
