    Way cool!

I haven't been having any luck getting out lately to do any shooting. So today I decided to just sit out back with my decaf and see if I could get any birds in the back yard. We do get a good variety on the bird feeders.

So I threw on my shoes, put the camera around my neck, grabbed my cup and my 300 mm and slid open the back door to....

BIRDS!! Big ones!! lol I was in total shock to see a big turkey vulture sitting there, I've been wanting to shoot them and had some "almost" times in the past and here was my opportunity staring me in the face! I set the coffee back down, quickly switched over to the 300 mm (as he got ready to fly off the fence) and by this time.... ANOTHER one showed up! With something that might once have been a squirrel, in his beak. The first one stayed and this all happened probably within like 2 min, if that. I hardly had time do anything so its instances like that that make me wish I was better with the camera but oh well. It still made my day!!

    Thanks for looking!
Feels good to have something to post again!!!

Neat series! Definitely not the usual backyard scene

Sure does look like a squirrel breakfast. Thanks for sharing!

Your vultures look different than the ones we have around my parts here in Indiana, ours have red heads, but are just as ugly. Like said before this is a great series and I think it really shows that the neighbors need to pick up the dead squirrels out of there yard ;)

Very nice shots, especially the first one on the fence.

Turkey Vultures are one of my favorite birds, nature's recyclers. I love watching them in flight too, they glide very gracefully and tend to have huuuuge wingspans.

lol Thanks Well they came from the other side of the fence and their is a road back there that gets pretty busy... so I'm guessing it was road kill they found, I still say it was rather inconsiderate of them to leave it for the pregnant lady to clean up :cryin:

Thanks dumpy Yes they do have a huge wingspan. This is only the second time I've gotten to see them up close. I saw one once when my family was headed out to the Great Dismal swamp. I spotted it on a small bridge in front of us and begged my husband to stop the car, but he wouldn't :cryin:

    Nice backyard find!

Pretty sure they are black vultures, not turkey vultures.

They are black vultures, but young turkey vultures have dark heads also.

Thanks.. got it. I was told a long time ago when we moved here that they were turkey vultures. Never actually looked them up before.
