    Very Wary Hawk

On the way home this evening, via a slight detour, I spotted this one looking for dinner about sunset.

Very nice picture DRG, is it a redtail? The color on his wings look a little different from most redtail's I've seen.

    Re: Very Wary Hawk

Nice job. I've been trying to get a close shot of a hawk all year. I've resorted to using my car as a moving blind. The best opportunity came when a hawk flew parallel to my moving car at the same speed at a distance of only about 40'. I had about 2 seconds of a really gorgeous look at it as it glided. Unfortunately I was driving.

Any more for that outing, CDP?

    Thanks all for the comments.

Unfortunatly this one the only one that was even vaguely good. I'd stopped the car and was shooting out the window and he dove. Aperture priority got me in this case, not enough shutter speed to get more than some O.K. blurs

I think, not sure, still learning, this is a red shouldered hawk, but pretty certain it is indeed a butero of one flavor or another.

That one from Knight does look like a cooper to me. Good photo!

This one got dinner I'm certain. The stretch of road has been lousy with hawks for weeks. I'm going to try to get out again this evening, heavy fog this morning and way to dark to do anything.

Hopefully more of these fellows to come soon.
