Venus Transit Of The Sun On June 5th

Venus transits the sun on June 5th. The next one will not occur for over 100 years! For those with solar filters, you can photograph it directly. For those without solar filters, you can watch the transit by using the projection method.

Starts around 6:00 pm on the east coast.

Excellent! My wife and I have dentist appointments that afternoon, but I will have my telescope and cameras in the car with me! We are going to the beach after our appointments to watch and photograph the transit.

My filter material came yesterday so I just need to build the mount for it. I think I may try to have some (silhouetted) foreground in it if I can line up the shot up correctly.

Here's my filter all assembled and mounted on the A* 300mm on a old Vivitar 2x TC on my K-5.

I took this from my office rooftop

Later I tried to find some foreground to include. This was a difficult exposure. Talk about a strong backlight! I was also being attacked by mosquitoes.

Very cool pictures. Any idea what the other spots in the sun are? Mosquitoes maybe?
