    Various from this afternoon

A variety package. The bird was a bit skittish so I had to use the Canon 2x TC with the 70-200 f/2.8L IS. Macros here (and my other recent threads) are with extension tubes on the 70-200 or the 24-70 f/2.8L.

I am trying to prove to myself that virtually everything I want to shoot can be done with 3 zooms, 1 TC, and extension tubes.

"...everything I want to shoot can be done with 3 zooms.."

Ah , so you have a sigma 300-800 as the third lens ;)

Doves are a bit odd. Usually they flush , but sometimes you can almost step on them before they fly. That flower image is pretty cool too.

What kind of tree is that last one? Is it a poplar? I know that tree, but just can't place it!!!

    Re: Various from this afternoon

Knight, thanks. I believe that I was only able to get about 25' away before it took off. All the while looking away as if I could fool it I was on my sidewalk and this tree is in my front yard.

Paul, the doves are always plentiful in our neighborhood but they never let anyone get very close. Perhaps too many kids/dogs/cats giving chase? As for the tree identification, can you name that tune in one branch? I have no idea. It is actually the same tree that the dove is sitting in. My neighborhood is one of those where there they plant the same trees at the same time down the entire street. Just that the landscaper planted something different in only our lot. Know one seems to know what it is. Perhaps I can photograph the leaves in a week or two.

I am stumped!!! Can you get me an image of the whole tree ;) My cousin is pretty good with trees , as are my brothers. I am not too shabby either, but I haven't been in the tree business in about 5 years .

Paul, you're on! I will post a picture of the whole tree after the leaves have come out.

It will be great to put a name on it after 14 years. Though I'm sure it is not very exotic.

The WHOLE thing?! Now that's a lot to ask out of a macro guy How do you do that? Next, I was going to shoot a small piece of bark for you in this Name That Tune theme

It's pretty darn ugly looking at the WHOLE tree. But I will do my best tonight or over the weekend (got have a nice sunset, at least!).

Seriously, it looks like a green ash, which is a very good site tree due to it's tolerance to many different soil types.

Here's an image of a young one

Paul, green ash it may be by the look of the leaves. Here are my leaves now that they have grown.

Oh, the whole tree (as much as I could muster ) as well.
