Beetles give you a split second notice that they are about to fly away by opening their hard outer wing covering before the wings spin up.
Ladybugs give you even more notice by running (literally and fast!) to the nearest leaf/twig end from which to launch. Following them to the exact take-off point is a different problem. I didn't have enough time to adjust my position to get the lady out from the obstructions in the background.
The slow (3 fps) 5D camera only allowed me to get this shot. I'm sure that my 50D would have been able to also get the next frame with it in midair. I'll keep trying![]()
