    two young black racers

here's a snake we caught at our first destination in the shawnee national forest. This is a black racer, coluber constrictor, still maintaining the juvinile coloration. As these age, they become solid black with a white chin. These were the most common non-venomous snakes we found, I think the totals numbered around 15-20. Here are the first two that I have processed and uploaded. The best images I took of this snake have one of our group member's hands as the backdrop, but most of the shots were well focused, clear, and relatively free of distracting backgrounds.

    C+C always welcome, please enjoy.

    Erik.

    Re: two young black racers

Very nice, Erik. I especially like the first one - very sharp - and I was mesmerized by the coloration of the scales. Spent a few minutes staring at them.

Eyes are nice and sharp (the highlight near the scale is but a sharp little star point). For me, the best part is how the forked tongue is just barely visible.

    Keep 'em coming.

Thanks for the post. I always thought a black racer was venomous. I've learned something. Nice pictures as well.
