    A Quick Bird Shot

Been out a bit lately, (,Haven't Been Around Much Lately)
but I have been taking photo's. Here's one I took at the NC Aquarium. This marsh is behind the Aquarium and it connects to Bogue Sound. I think this is a tri-colored heron, but feel free to correct me.

    Cropped and slight levels adjustment.

I've got lots more, just need the time to go through them....

That's a great cool mirror image shot, Speed.

I know it's not always easy to find an appropriate subject for a mirror image composition, but this one works!

Thanks Loupey! This guy was moving about quite a bit, so catching him still was a minor miracle. Catching the reflection in the water was an incredible bonus. Sometimes you'd rather be lucky than good. I got lucky.

    Well, Rob

After years of seeing my images, and my banterous blabbering via PM..... You are getting better at ID's and your images are also getting better..

On images such as this with clean BG and FG.... close that lens down to F11 and get ther whole scene in focus. The reflection is slightly OOF , but the water is also a bit rippled to soften it too.

Woohoo!!! High praise indeed from the master birder! F11? Can do, and will do, when the lighting allows. Thanks for the tips my friend!

    Re: A Quick Bird Shot

The F11 all depends on focal length and distance to subject(as you should know) . I based that on 40 feet away and using d200/400mm(don't know if you own a 2x or not).

    Also get a bit lower

I do not have a 2X teleconverter. I have the 80-200mm f2.8 and my old 70-300mm f4-5.6. These were taken with the 80-200mm.

I was on an observation platform when I took these. They have two at the Aquarium, and I've included a shot of one of them. Can't get but so low.

The range varied from about 100' down to about 10'. 40 to 50 feet is about the norm though, so you were right on - as usual.

    ;-)

It was wild having to zoom OUT as the heron got closer!
