A Tree on a Long empty battlefield

One of the things I wanted to do on my vacation this week was to take an afternoon and go out and take some pictures. So yesterday, my son who is 8 (armed with my old digital camera) and I with my Nikon D50, went for a hike/photo safari. I did some research of locations that might be cool to hike in the mild winter we are having here in NJ and came up with Monmouth Battlefield. It is a park now, where one of the largest battles of the American Revolution took place. NJ has a lot of battlefield locations as there were over 600 skirmishes/battles in NJ during the Revolution since the British were head quartered in NY and the Continental army in Philadelphia.

Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Being from NJ myself I find the read quite enjoyable. The image may have benefitted from a different angle as to not include the 2 other pinoaks in the background.

Looking only at the image, I feel that the image is too static.

A more dramatic lighting angle or textured clouds or autumn colors may give it more pep. May make a great seasonal location series to get this one tree at different times of the year.

    Thanks for posting, Scott.

I agree with Paulnj about the two tree's in the b/g (they look like they would be pretty easy to clone out).

With all of the modern buildings and industrial area's, it's hard to remember that NJ has so much history. I would love to see some more images from the different battle grounds.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone. I went back into photo shop and took out the 2 B/G trees. What do you think?

    Loupey,

I think the idea of this being a seasonal location is a great idea! I am definetly going to do that. Thanks.

    Copy_Kot,

I think I will turn the battlefields into a photo project. I think the Princeton Battlefield maybe my next location. There is also another hike at the Monmouth Battlefield that I am thinking of doing soon.

Thanks again for the great suggestions.

I am still not sure which version of the photo I like....What do you all think?

I think it looks much better with the solitary tree. Nice cloning job!
