    Todays garden visitors

Although the female and male chaffinch and collared Dove are regular customers to the feed station in the garden, today this green finch made an appearance which brightened things up a little.

It's pretty cool that your green finch is very similiar to our gold finch(I know your goldfich has the red cap)

That male chaffinch is a great catch

Never disappointed. I like the dove too.

So what did you decide? About your next Canon body?

Thanks, and its strange but quite interesting how the same species differs country to country.

Loupey, after long deliverance i decided on the 1DMKllN i had a go of a friends, journalist friends and it felt great! apart from it being half the price of the 1Ds which allows me to perhaps get another telephoto lense in the future of which i couldnt of done getting the 1Ds, i like the 8fps for my wildlife/action shooting which the 1D offers (which is 99% of the time) i loose the massive rise in resolution not getting the 1Ds but looking at sample pictures of the 1D im more than happy, So i am looking forward to Monday for its arrival!

Great, Bev! Hope you will post a quickie informal "review" of the camera here after you have had a few days to use it in the manner you normally would use it.

Might I ask, what telephoto were you thinking in the future? I too am thinking of upgrading soon (I believe I've pushed the limits of my existing equipment once too many times) and I have my eyes on a couple gems.

I certainly will Loupey, regarding another telephoto i would love the 400mm or pushing it even further the 500mm L series but i have a lot more saving to do!! but thats the future plan, although i love my 200-700L f2.8 IS USM, and i am using my TC's more now so i wont be in too much of a rush (i am having to curb the women thing of look now, have tomorrow!) iv posted these images using the 1.4 TC, comments on quality ie softness, sharpness, would be appreciated, sorry they are of more sparrows but not alot going on in the garden apart from the baby sparrows.

Bev, yeah it's a shame that the price jumps so much for anything faster/longer than the 300 f/4L IS and the 400 f/5.6L. There is no in between ground (price-wise)

So you have both the 1.4x and the 2x TC's? I've heard that the 1.4 is much better in terms of overall image quality but I am happy with my 2x. You've posted images before with the 2x and, if I recall correctly, they were shot at f/5.6 or 6.3 which is wide open for that lens. With my 2x, the maximum I shoot is f/8.0 and preferrably f/11. Tonight I will post some more I just took with the 2x - they will be in the procreation thread.

Your top image looks great - plenty of detail and sharpness at least at this resolution. The 2nd looks ok resolution-wise but the contrast still looks great. The 3rd one is iffy. I don't know if it was some camera shake but it does look somewhat soft.

Yes i have both the TC,s but more often use the Sigma 1.4x, and as you say i find the overall quality better especially handheld, re the 3rd image i was very close to this bird, and had to point the camera practically straight up into the tree,so your prob right about the camera shake, and also i have cropped the image quite a bit so in all this probably has'nt helped the overall image quality, aperature setting was at f4.Look forward to seeing your images using the TC,s.

Have you noticed that the IS seems to not work so well when the camera is held in portrait mode? It also goes kind of berserk if you point it straight up or down.

Sorry, the TC shots in the Copulation thread may not be great examples. Here is a link to a previous thread with various examples of that lens with the 2xTC. Don't know if you saw it so here it is again:
