    How about... an old, brownish, dusty squirrel nest... with a bright-looking, clean squirrel happily peeking out... or maybe a very blue blue jay... an owl perhaps?

    Nice shots, like the last one most for how the lighting emphasizes the texture on the ground. The bunny-prints and tiny-bird-prints look pretty fresh too.

    Thanks Alex, I'd hate to admit how long I've spent watching that nest hoping to see something peek out...

    I assumed it was a squirrel nest as I often see a squirrel in that tree and others nearby, but with all the squirrels in the area I'd expect to see more like it which makes me wonder.
