I thought it was a pit too, but the owner said bulldog. he was a sweetie, by the way, as are most dogs like this who are given the proper upbringing. Even pits will be sweethearts if they aren't raised to fight.

Then that is an AMERICAN BULLDOG It looks a bit pitbull like(as some do), but the muzzle is too wide for a pure APBT.
America bulldogs usually range from 60-80 pounds , but John D Johnson makes some well over the 100 lbs mark(120-150). Take one of them and interbreed for size and voila..... Non huge headed, yet large american bulldog.
Then I will agree with you. She probably did say American bulldog but for some reason I heard English.
