I went into the city today shopping for a new camera pack. The little canvas shoulder bag I like to use just got too small, which is another way of saying I carry too much junk but....
Anyhow, I bought a Lowepro Slingshot 300AW bag and on arriving home switched my gear over to it and went for a quick walk along the river in town at dusk to try it out.
Here's a shot as I arrived on the river bank.
And a shot of some ice on the rocks..
Plus a shot taken as the light disappeared of some red berries..
The sling bag works pretty well. You can pull around in front of you to grab your camera out. It's fairly comfortable to wear once you get the strap adjusted right and it carries pleny of gear. It comes with a hidden rain cover built in, lots of dividers and lots of pockets. I particularly like the top storage area which is seperate from the camera area. It fits my small thermos plus a 24" square piece of neophrene I carry for sitting on when it's wet out. (I cut it out of an old pair of leaking fishing waders. Very handy item, keeps your bum dry ;) )
The only drawback to this pack that I've noticed so far is that you can't easily get at the lenses to change them. I think this can be solved by putting a lens into the easily accessed camera space once you sling the camera around your neck. I'll try that next time out.
Anyhow..the price gagged me but I think it'll suit me on my walks very nicely. The number 100 and 200 models I looked at were too small for me but just as nicely made.
