    Territorial Turkey

I went to sit in my blind tonight and wait for some deer to pass by. I took my turkey call with me so I would have something to do to pass the time, and see if I could call in some birds. This was my first attempt to use a turkey call. It didn't take long to get one to come out of the woods. Another came from the other side of the field. I saw a total of 6 turkey's, but I think some of them were the same birds. Never did see any deer.

The focus and comp suck in this image, but that just makes me want to go back till I get it right.

Hey, you have to start somewhere right! Though it's not an award winning image, you got close to a hard subject and they were unaware of you so it seems from the action.

My question is this, what kind of blind do you have? I am thinking of buying a small portable or building a portable from PVC and camo burlap.

    Re: Territorial Turkey

    Paul,

I built my own bling out of burlap camo, and some old 1x6 boards. I ripped the boards down to about 2" wide strips and then made 4 frames out of them. Two of the frames are about 4' high, and 6' long, and the other two are about 4'x4' so my blind is rectangular shaped. Then I took one long piece, and one short piece, and joined them with a hinge in the corner. I did this with both sets of my sides, so my blind is 2 pieces. Then I put some little latches in the corners of the end of the blind, oposite the hinge side, so I could conect the two pieces together. The burlap is stapled to the wooden frames. I cut some + shapes slits in the burlap to stick my lens thru. It works, but it's not very portable, and some of my hinges have pulled out of the wood frame as some of the wood was pretty soft. I would like to redue it so it's a bit more solid, but for now, it's working. I have enuf room in it for my large camera backpack, a good size lawn chair, and my tripod. I fell asleep in it yesterday while trying to get some more turkey shots. For the some of the turkey shots I did get, I was able to stand up and shoot over the top of the blind without scaring them, even tho I was bretty visible from the shoulders up.
