Spring break pics

Instead of heading south, I headed north. My now-retired-parents are about to move to Florida. So, I decided to spend the week of my kiddo's spring break helping my parents around the house with some painting and packing and doing some site-seeing with the family in the Tn and Ky area.

The two shots of the eagles are from Ft. Donelson and the two lightning shots are from the storm / tornado that tore through the area. The damaged areas were about 20 minutes south of their house and I was lucky enough to spend about 30 minutes on the sidewalk with absolutely zero rain. Plenty of wind, but no rain.

That eagle nest shot really hits home for me. My friend monitors a eagle nest locally and I help him when I can. They should have chicks in that nest if the eggs were viable and getting close in not very good for them. Stressing nesting eagle could cause them to abbandon the nest(not that I am saying you stressed them).

In NJ it is illegal to get within 1000 feet of a nest ;)

The government is trying to delist the bald eagle stating that they have recovered , but that is to benefit big business, and work against the eagles IMHO ;)

From what the park ranger stated, she thinks that this nest has been here about three or 4 years. I am not sure what the Fed regs are, but the park has numerous signs posted around the nesting area to keep people at a safe distance. The nest was actually built within a loop of the park's self-guided driving tour so everyone who drives through can get a good view. These pics were taken about ten to 15 feet off the pavement, at the posted boundary.

I have a couple of pics showing the eaglets ... I will edit post this with them later.

Damb! That eaglet are quite big. Obviously from your images and story, those eagles are not too concerned with humans at the distance you are at. I am glad to here the ranger is aware of the importance of letting nature go about it's day without too much preasure from humans.
