    Re: SPRING 2011 Bird ID

Hey, BB, could you make the photos a bit smaller next time? Little hard to view since they don't fit entirely on my screen.

Anyway, I feel like I just took a quiz, and Paul will provide the answer sheet later :P

    My guesses:

    Scrub Jay
    Black headed grosbeak
    Magpie
    Chipping Sparrow
    Tanager-- female western or summer?
    Western Tanager
From nest shape I'd guess robins, but can't tell for sure
    Grey Jay
    Female Yellow Warbler?
    Killdeer

When I took this shot, I thought it was a Brewer's Blackbird, but now I'm thinking it may be a Common Grackle.

    Re: SPRING 2011 Bird ID

I didn't get a very good shot of this guy in the pouring rain, but probably good enough for an ID. He was hanging with a bunch of cowbirds and juncos, yet his size is between those two. I can't find anything like this in my books. Thanks.

    Re: SPRING 2011 Bird ID

I was shooting the terns, and didn't even notice the shorebirds until later. Shot's not great for an ID since the focus wasn't on them. I know one is a spotted sandpiper, but what's the one to the right with the long beak?

I did! Yes I'm fortunate enough to live about a block away from the Riperian Preserve in Gilbert, so I'm trying to figure out what all my little friends are called.

    Re: SPRING 2011 Bird ID

Thanks for the clarification Paul. In my mind I thought the black bill indicated Great Egret...if only I could have seen the golden slippers on this guy, I might have guessed right!:blush2:

Can you help me identify these three? They first three were taken in NW Washington state; the second and third shots are two different angles of the same bird. The last bird was taken in MT.

    Thanks!
