Thanks everyone. Cant say I know what HDR is. Still trying to figure out a way to get photoshop so for now I just use what adjustments I have in iphoto. Thought the same thing slayer. Considered cropping the dark foreground but thought it might be too narrow/long then and I didnt have a way to lighten just that part.

The last one is awesome. Crop off the top band of empty sky and the right side of the protruding tree and make it an 4:8 crop ratio. A little more levels/curves adjustments to get more blacks will make it a real treat.

    Thanks for post!

Thanks loupey Hows this look? Also why a 4 to 8 crop ratio? One of my posters fell down last night, think it may be a sign to see how this one turns out as a print.

Yes, I like this crop better. But it is too contrasty and dark IMO. I can show you my take on it - but I need your permission.

I like 4:8 and sometimes 4:10 ratios when the subject matter is obviously linear. By keeping the image full width and cropping out the top and/or bottom of the image, the result is often much more powerful and keeps the viewer in the "line of sight". I have an example of this on almost every page of my website - take a look.

Obviously this breaks the golden "rule of thirds". But breaking the rules sometimes makes life exciting

Go for it, would appreciate seeing your take on it.

Checked out your website and can defintely see what you mean with the 4x8 and 4x10. Some really nice shots in there too. Rules were made to be broken right. Let me know if you want a little bigger version to work with. Im still working with just iphoto so I can adjust the contrast, saturation, exposure, and levels to a degree but not as fine as photoshop/lightroom/aperture I imagine.

For nature/wildlife, you don't need too many tools. I have CS2 and I probably don't use more than 5% of its capability. I mostly just use Levels, Curves, Color Adjustment, Saturation (unsaturate actually), and Unsharp Mask. A lot of little ity bity steps. Nothing fancy, nothing in big chunks. But in this case, I did have to pull a little from the shadows using the Shadows/Highlight tool.

So here is your image. Because the foreground trees are visible across the front of the mountain, I felt it was important to show them more clearly. Also, I love that sloping snow field in the foreground so I thought it was important to show the texture/detail in the snow there. And to break my own breaking of the rules, I went 4:9

    Re: Some ridgeline shots.

Thanks loupey. Went back and took some more time with it and think I got pretty close to yours. Good to know you dont need much of photoshop since that would be competing with camera/lens/tripod etc.. Stick with iphoto for a while. Heres the final one I came up with plus the original. I didnt like the original and used my googles as a filter. Used the filtered one to get to here. Going to try to print this one, well see how it turns out. Link to big versioin. http://gallery.photographyreview.com...&ppuser=258696

Thanks for all the help.

Neat series - kinda Andy Warhol like.

I like the first one the best. Just wondering if you shot this through a car window. You have some strange effect going on in the right edge of the frame - just curious what caused that.

Nope, noticed that the next day. I had something nasty stuck to the lens. Not really sure how it got there but it did.
