Some Bird Shots From Myrtle Beach

    Just for you Paul!

Is this first one a Moorhen? It looks like one, except for the beak (I'm used to the red beaks). Is that a male/female thing? I know the second and third one's are moorhens.

Re: Some Bird Shots From Myrtle Beach

    #1 looks like a coot.
As in bald as a coot !

Not quite the same as the ones here in the UK, but the red eye, beak colour and shape are all coot.
It doesn't have the prominent green leg colour that I see on our coots, but it's close enough to make me sure that's what it is.

Your moorhens again look a bit like ours, but yours have a browner plumage toward the tail.

When I get the big box running again I'll dig out some of mine.
I posted some coots under "Mild avian violence" last year I think.
And also juveniles in the original Bird ID thread.

coot and moorhens indeed! I assure you they have greenish legs in the US, but the UK birds have a slightly different plumage!

Red face Thank You Smart Wombat

As you can tell, I'm not a serious birder.

But I do enjoy taking photo's of them!

    Thanks for the ID!
