    Soldier Beetle and Locust Borer

First time ever seeing a locust borer and I saw more than one at the nature center last weekend. Might be bad news for any black locust trees in the woods, but they are sure strikingly marked and colored.

These soldier beetles have been out and busy. They really seem to enjoy goldenrod, though I was seeing them on the boneset before the goldenrod opened, and on sunflowers. I'm not sure if they're goldenrod soldier beetles or margined leatherwings. The two species look identical to me.
