Well im getting there slowly , think this is my best Snowy so far but its a composite . The inflight was added , they are of the same bird but a few frames apart.

I like it Knight. I know this isn't the critique forum, but I think this image would work very well without the in flight image added too. Maybe crop a little off the top. I also think it would work very well cropped to a vertical. Maybe just to the left of the middle post, and a little off the top.

I love the clarity of the shot... as well as the composite addition. You've done some fine shooting and some fine post work as well. What you have already done is impressive and yet I can still see so much more potential with this shot just as the poster above (Mike)

Wonderful shot and nice processing work. I agree with the two above, this could work well without the in flight addition but also works as it is. I'd hate to see the post on the right with the stone lost to cropping though.

Yes, almost always. For me, the lens is just too slow to hand hold. I'm usually shooting with it when the sun is low, and have it stopped down to f/9. I also like to keep my ISO as low as possible so I'm often shooting at shutter speeds that make hand holding next to impossible. For me, a tripod and cable release are mandatory for the 170-500mm. I also use MF a lot with this lens. If you're shooting into trees, or a busy BG, the AF has a hard time focusing on what I want it to.

Yes i have the 170-500mm , havent used it very often. Im wondering how it will take cold weather on a tripod.

I have had mine out in very cold temps and have never had a problem with it. You should be fine.

Thanks Guys , Martin we were talking about the 170-500mm Sigma . Mike has it in Canon and i have it Nikon mount.Its a good lens for the price but you need very good light with it . I have used it on occasion handheld with some degree of success but its a tripod lens .
