    Smoky Mountain Elk

I had a chance to try my new Pentax 10D and 28-300 Promaster lens out on these transplanted elk.
The second shot is at a normal perspective so you can judge the distance.

The road in to this part of the park is not for the faint of heart...

These were taken shortly before the sun dropped behind the mountains...about 5:30 maybe.

Nice job Chunk. Looks like Kentucky here. We have the largest heard of elk east of the Mississippi. My daughter teaches in the mountain area in the eastern part of the the state and see them all time. Looks like that Pentax is working out real well for you.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thanks OT. Sounds like you'd have an elk guide handy.

I'm getting some things figured out. I love having all the controls handy while shooting. Here's yesterday's sunrise from Stecoah Gap as I was leaving for home. Wish I could have stayed down there longer.

Yep looks like you got all those buttons and dials pretty well figured out. Beautiful photograph. The Smokies are noted for scenes like this.
