Excellent shots. It's hard to get a perspective on how small the chick must be. - TF

Thanks for the comments, folks !

First time I've ever seen a hummingbird nest. Not sure I could get anything better, substantially different, or shoot from some better perspective though.

Incredible! No I can't imagine how small that chick must be.

Any ideas as to what makes up those tiny green "scales" on the nest?

Right at hatching, about the size of a lemon seed.

    Lichen.

They use it for camouflage... and I suppose it works quite well. Hummers also like to use spider webs to hold the whole nest together.

    Wonderful shots, AE!

    Aging,

I thought I had taken some fairly decent shots of a humming bird, including those posted over the past month of so of babies and the mother, but now I see what a truly outstanding shot requires. Absolutely well done and most deserving of the Feature Photo. Congratulations. I tip my hat to you!

Wow, you are very kind, David !! Yeah, I remember those shots and I was envious !

I thought I was just sharing something I had never seen in person before and probably some of you might not have either. Anyhow, thank you, everyone !!
