here is an eastern gartersnake, thamnophis sirtalis, found in the same 100 foot stretch of levy that my prarie kingsnake's mother was found in. Perhaps the most colorful common garter i have ever seen; they are highly variable. Picture taken with a P+S digicam, 2003. colors are pretty true to life, this was a very pretty snake.

The gartersnake was posed - funny story, when we took it out of the pillowcase we had stashed it in, it had no interest in moving. Here it is just as it fell from the bag...it did not change position much for over 20 minutes while we photographed it.
