    Show Me The Spiders!

I'll get this started with a few of my own. Mine are all eating, but yours don't have to.

I hate spiders, but that doesn't stop me from photographing them. Here are a couple from last year.

    Re: Show Me The Spiders!

I used to have a phobia of spiders after being bitten by a big black one when I was about 4 years old. I could not even stay in the same room as one but also due to my love and respect for all thing natural I could not kill them either. When I got a bit older, around 22, I decided that it was not acceptable to have such fear of a mostly harmless, little bug so I forced myself to overcome the fear with immersion training. I started by catching them in jars myself instead of getting other people to do it, then gradually worked my way up to catching them in my hand then on to releasing them so they walked on my hand then letting them walk up my arm and finally putting them on my face which was my ultimate fear. Do you know, it worked and now I am not bothered by them in the slightest. At least I would not be if I had not moved from the UK to Brazil, where we have some seriously venomous species, but now its more about respect than fear. I would recommend this approach to anyone, conquering a phobia give you such a sense of achievement.
Anyway here are a few of my local species.
#1 Brown Widow, twice as venomous as the Black Widow but totally docile, a beautiful spider. I have lots living in my shed.
#2 Orb Weaver, big and non venomous. They string their webs up across jungle paths and I have walked into many with the result that I have a spider the size of my hand climbing on my head.
3# Trap Door, they dig a burrow and live underground so they are rarely seen. Non venomous I think.
4# Brazilian Wandering Spider, Highly venomous and extremely aggressive they are said to have the most painful bite of all insects.

I knew you were gonna come along and show us all up...

    Great backlights dude!

Here are some of my own... Ok only two of them are backlit, but the web on looks wicked on the second orb weaver...

BTW: A few of you guys have said you have not shot any spiders lately. It doesn't matter. All of my shots I have posted are mostly from 04 and 05. A couple are from last year, but it doesn't matter. It's all about the images, not when they were shot! I'll tell you this much, it's making me wanna get out there and look for spidies!

I forgot that I do have a shot for this thread... I was shooting the grass against the sunset and the wind blew his web into my shot, so I figured I'd see if I could get one of him.

Then I backed away very very very fast. I'm a total wuss with bugs

    That's a very nice shot.

Just a bit of advice. It's not the spiders in webs that you need to watch out for, they are usually docile and run to the highest corner of their webs when they perceive a threat. Nope, it's the other ones, the hunters. The jumping spiders, wolf spiders, Hobo spiders, and so on, those are the ones that'll chase ya'. The ones dangling there are just for show.

    Great shots you guys!

Almo, thats a pretty big meal for that little spider in the first one ;)

I used to work in a pet shop where we sold tarantulas and there was one that I used to hold all the time, it would crawl up my arm across my shoulders up to the nape of my neck and it would just stay there, all day long. People never even knew it was there. I only showed the customers who expressed they were not afraid of spiders lol

Almo, that tarantula was walking around outside my condo in Sedona AZ so I scooped her up and gave her a ride to safety. She crawled up my arm and my uncle snagged that image of me.
